What is it?
The C63 S is the most powerful AMG variant of the Mercedes C-Class, which has recently undergone a major facelift. Of course, these electronic improvements also gave birth to this sporty version, from the fully digital dashboard to the central infotainment system to the new electronic platform. Although this AMG is mostly about the sensations. So:
- No power: C63 to 476 and the C63 S 510 hp
- Much faster, because the maximum speed is now 290 km / h
- S-version gets dynamic engine mounts
- the rear wheels
- Upgrading aesthetics with the grille Panamericana
- The multimedia gets specific AMG functions
- C63 AMG also comes as sedan, as station wagon and as a cabriolet

This approach does not seem so drastic …
Yet the update goes further than you think at first glance. Visually, where the difference between the classic variants of the C-Class and Wild AMG is growing. Especially at the front, where the Panamericana grid with vertical slats made known by other AMG models arrives. In addition, we note a transverse fin in the outside air intakes, more pronounced sill extensions and a reworked rear diffuser with new end dampers. AMG boys also launch a newly designed wheel set
Inside, AMG is blessing the Mercedes C63 with new fitting options, which we remember from the optional Performance seats. They adapt perfectly to the driver thanks to integrated adjustable air cushions and can be ventilated in addition to being heated. Now, the interior is particularly impressive with its digital update, with a new dashboard and a new multimedia screen.
This infotainment system brings together a lot of additional AMG information. From the warm-up phase and the chosen configuration on the engine data, the display of g forces to the detailed running timer. But there is more. You get a visualization of the layout of the circuit and all kinds of information on both the sector and the lap times of the optional AMG Speed Track. The new AMG sports steering wheel can be equipped with two additional functions: under the right turning radius, a round regulator with the manettino style and on the left two freely configurable vertical display color switches.

But the entire drive is not affected?
This was not necessary either. The known 4-liter V8, still driven by two turbos, remains at 476 hp. Or 510, as in the case of a slightly wilder S version of the C63 AMG. This power drives the rear wheels via a ninetine automatic transmission with Speedshift technology, where the conventional torque converter is replaced by a wet coupling, a little more responsive.
The sprint from 0 to 100 km / h requires only 3.9 seconds, the electronic regulated top speed of the Mercedes-AMG C63 S has been increased to 290 km / h.
All versions of the Mercedes-AMG C63 now feature an electronically controlled limited-slip differential on the rear axle. The mechanical steel suspension is equipped as standard with adaptive damping. On even more sporty S models, there are also dynamic mounts that adapt to the driving style and thus make the comfort position more comfortable and the sport mode more dynamic.
Does the new C63 AMG work differently?
Unlike the C43 AMG and the E63 AMG, the fastest C-Class is not available with 4Matic all-wheel drive. Just like the BMW M4 Coupe, which is also available only with propulsion, dares to pose traction problems, especially when the asphalt is wet or defective. And the active limited slip can not contribute much to this generous engine torque. Fortunately, AMG juggles with a wide range of settings.
Now he has a few feet in the ground to find your beloved setting. Given the power and wild nature of the creature, we recommend making this choice on the circuit. The AMG Driving Academy can also help you better know the C63 AMG, so you can also appeal and use the huge potential. Those who jam regularly on a closed circuit, must order carbon-ceramic brake discs.
On the normal road, the Mercedes-AMG C63 is a true Dr. Jekyll and Mister Hyde. It is very easy and convenient to comfortably smooth the kilometers, but calm and quiet, with a gearbox that moves more comfortable than normal with the torque converter. If you start with the knife between your teeth and you already know the driving style that suits you and the circumstances, then it becomes a real sports car that can provide a lot of thrills, landslides and a particularly sharp backhand. The automatic limited slip ensures that things can be controlled more easily, you do not always have to drive with sweaty hands.

The Auto World verdict?
Mercedes used the regular C-Class facelift to further explore the wildness of the 63 AMG. The big V8 biturbo has not been touched, but the bodywork is gaining strength in muscle and chassis with sharpness. But only if it is necessary, because thanks to the different adjustment possibilities, this wild wolf becomes as easy as a loyal dog.
