Woman Martin Gaus after the operation: "Never so much shouted"

Martin passed under the knife yesterday afternoon, after the kidney was removed from the donor in the morning. The lover of the dogs found his new kidney by a message on Facebook. His daughter Sacha made a call that was eventually answered by twelve possible donors.

After the first projections, four were dropped. Finally, of the other eight interested parties, one donor remained with all the screenings done. "And they are very heavy," says Martin's wife, Helly. The couple knew the donor Annette Koome because of their work. She drives dogs confiscated through the Dog in Need Foundation. "We are extremely grateful for each other."

Martin and Annette are doing well after their heavy operations. Today, the donor has even visited Martin in his room. "He was crying and standing," Helly said, moved. "We have never rushed so much as these past two days, it was very moving." Annette can go home on Thursday. Martin must stay until next Wednesday.

In addition to the new kidney for Martin, something positive has come from this fierce period. Four people initially registered as donors to Martin have now registered as an anonymous donor. In this way, they can still save the life of a kidney patient. "It's so important for the kidney foundation, and anyway for people waiting for a new kidney."

Just before Martin's operation, Bridget Maasland was looking for it.
