NS public award: no sports book, but fiction

Astrid Holleeder, Saskia Noort and Hendrik Groen, but this year there is no sportsbook among the six contenders for the NS Audience Award. The price of the most famous book in the Netherlands has gone to a sports book three times in the last five years – each time by Michel van Egmond. The nomination was announced on Wednesday night in the televised program De Wereld Draait Door .

In principle, not only these six books, but all the Dutch narrative books still have the chance to win the prize : votes are also open to books outside nominations. In practice, there has never been an outside winner on the list. The lobby of the football program VI resulted in a high number of votes for Van Egmond in previous editions of the NS Audience Award. On November 21, the elections end and the winner is announced: he receives 7,500 euros, a train ticket and a statuette.
