Two UN soldiers killed in Mali

During the attack on a UN soldiers camp in Mali, two peacekeepers were killed on Saturday. This reports the AP news agency. It concerns two soldiers from neighboring Burkina Faso. At least 12 UN soldiers were also injured.

According to a United Nations spokesman, men armed with heavily armed vehicles allegedly attacked the UN camp in the city of Ber, about 60 kilometers from Timbuktu. According to AP, no organization has yet claimed the attack.

The UN spokeswoman also said that a UN vehicle had been used explosively in the central region of Mopti. In addition, four United Nations soldiers from Togo were injured.

In Mali, Dutch soldiers of the United Nations were also posted. This Dutch contribution will expire in principle on 31 December of this year.

Many attacks

Until 2012, it was relatively quiet in Mali. But that year, the army sacked the president and Tuareg rebels and Islamic terrorist groups took power in the north of the country. It is an alliance of Ansar Dine, led by former Tuareg leader Iyad Ag Ghaly, of the Macina Liberation Front (MLF), Al-Mourabitoun and a sub-department of al-Qaeda. in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM). The Islamic State (IS) is also present in Mali since 2016, under the name of ISGS.
