Wade succeeds Van Gerwen after winning Whitlock at the last darts of the EC | Now

James Wade won the EC Darts title on Sunday night in Dortmund. The Englishman calculated in the final with Australian Simon Whitlock: 11 to 8.

Wade, 35, is the successor to Michael van Gerwen. The number one in the world has won the tournament in the past four years.

Van Gerwen was eliminated in the second round this year. "Mighty Mike" was surprised by the Englishman Steve West.

For Wade, it's his first big tournament win since winning the Masters in 2014. In 2011, "The Machine" won the UK Open for the last time in a big ranking tournament. He also won the World Grand Prix twice and was the strongest of the Premier League in 2009.

Wade bounces twice

On the way to the European Championship darts final, Wade beats the Welsh Gerwyn Price and the German Max Hopp. In the final against Whitlock, he beat twice because of a break deficit.

Both players then kept up the pace for a long time, but in the last three games, the Australian had to give himself.

In total. there are four Dutchmen in action in Dortmund. For Jelle Klaasen, Danny Noppert and Jermaine Wattimena, the curtain has already fallen in the first round.

Raymond van Barneveld did not participate in Dortmund. Like Gary Anderson, The Hague team did not get enough points on the thirteen tournaments of the Euro to get a start permit for the European Championship.
