In Tanzania, homosexuality is prohibited: a prison sentence of more than ten years. But now, the country is going further.
Governor Paul Makonda is responsible for this step: he has tasked a special team with finding and arresting homosexuals. The "Hunting Hunt" is scheduled to begin next week, which should give hundreds of names.
Action of Inquiry
Makonda is governor of Dar es Salaam, former capital of Tanzania and an important place for trade and tourism. He told reporters that the team would consist of seventeen people, including police officers and media representatives. The governor has called for him to send him gay names.
That many people abroad do not thank him, leave him cold. "I prefer the wrath of other countries than the wrath of God."
Prohibition of lubricants
Since the appointment of President Magufuli in Tanzania, the act against homosexuality has become increasingly strict in 2015. For example, in 2016, a ban was imposed on lubricants to "curb homosexuality". HIV and AIDS treatments have also been suspended as they would encourage homosexuality.
"Unnatural and wicked"
On Tuesday, a Tanzanian minister tweeted that "no argument" for the LGBTI community is based on scientific evidence. He described homosexuality as unnatural and "unholy".
