North Korea: stop the sanctions, otherwise the nuclear program would resume

Kim and Trump agreed this summer to work toward the creation of a Korean peninsula without nuclear weapons, without reaching firm agreements. The threat comes a week before a meeting between US Secretary of State Pompeo and his North Korean counterpart. During this meeting, in a place that has not yet been announced, Pompeo will probably ask for convincing measures in favor of disarmament. There will also be a second summit with Trump and Kim.

In a television interview, Pompeo said yesterday that the United States wanted to continue to put strong pressure on Pyongyang by applying sanctions to reduce the main program. Foreign Affairs in Pyongyang said "laughing" at the American idea that sanctions and pressure are leading to denuclearization.

South Korea wants to accelerate the rapprochement with its northern neighbor in order to put an end to the nuclear threat. Seoul also says that international sanctions against North Korea stand in the way of reconciliation efforts.
