It is easier for employers to fire an employee. This was decided Friday by the Council of Ministers, reported NOS, based on sources
. Employers may also submit several "less important" grounds as grounds for dismissal, instead of a clear reason as is currently the case. In such a case, the employee is entitled to a higher severance pay.
In addition, the NOS announced Friday that employers would be allowed to offer a flexible contract for three consecutive years from 2020. Now, a person can work for up to two years without a permanent contract. The probationary period goes to five months.
The FNV and CNV unions did not want to react on Friday and are waiting for the government's official statement. The union organization RMU rejects the government's proposal to relax the law on dismissal in reaction. "Employers will soon be able to release employees, not only in a simpler way, but also for questionable reasons," says Jan Schreuders, coordinator of the general conditions policy of the RMU. "And now that the severance pay is lower than before, the situation of the employees is worse on all fronts, and the easier dismissal is not a solution to the real problem, namely the difference in status. between the self-employed and the permanent employees. "
Schreuders nevertheless considers it positive that the government authorizes three consecutive temporary contracts in three years. "The current regime was not only too strict, but also put the risk that employers would hire someone to a permanent job."
