VDL Receives Multi-Million Dollar Order for Off-Road Vehicles with Superstructures

VDL Groep of Eindhoven, the Netherlands, will build 515 defense vehicles in the coming years for Mercedes-Benz. It is the command of all-terrain vehicles for the infantry, ambulances and logistics that the German manufacturer dragged at the end of October.

The chassis of the VDL bus, which is part of VDL Groep, can, as a subcontractor, equip the chassis of all vehicles, including hoops, radio and communication systems. VDL also occupies car maintenance for at least ten years. The exact amount of the transaction has not yet been announced, but according to VDL Groep spokesman, it is "an important order worth tens of millions of euros" ".

Helicopter

The lion's share of all-terrain vehicles is destined for the airmobile brigade, a combat unit of the Dutch army. These are light enough vehicles for transport by helicopter and mounting machine guns. VDL will work on prototypes until 2020 and will build all-terrain vehicles from 2021. The first vehicles will be delivered in the first quarter of 2021.

According to VDL Groep's director Theo Toussaint, the job is good for employment in the Netherlands. The order provides the company with approximately 42 years of factory work and another 15 years of engineering.

Mercedes-Benz and VDL have already worked together for the production of buses for the mobile unit in 2016 and the new police surveillance vehicles. whose production began in late 2017. VDL is also responsible for the installation of communication and navigation equipment, among others.
