"Ten men arrested in Zanzibar for homosexuality" Abroad

The men were arrested on the beach after the police received information about a gay marriage. According to Amnesty International, the men would be blocked without charge. The arrest took place shortly after the police intervention against homosexuals.

The Tanzanian government suspended its homosexual hunt on Monday. This was announced by a senior regional director, which provoked an international crisis.

Paul Makonda, the city's regional commissioner of millions of people, Dar es Salaam, announced last week the creation of a controversial team. This had to go in search of homosexuals, prostitutes and cybercriminals. Makonda said that he already had a list of names of alleged homosexual men.

Long prison sentences

Homosexuals may be sentenced to long prison terms in Tanzania. Yet the government has felt called to stand out from Makonda. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out that the director did not express the official position of the government.
