To date, the Ministry of Defense has awarded a total of 923,000 euros to 136 victims of chromium 6 carcinogen.
The compensation scheme came in June following an extensive investigation by RIVM on the use of chromium 6 in the country.
The RIVM report shows that the department is aware of the adverse effects of chrome-6 paint for decades without informing employees. Secretary of State Barbara Visser apologized for the presentation of the report and presented the settlement of the dispute.

The defense organization has already drawn up a compensation regulation
Before the completion of the RIVM investigation, it has already set up a leniency system for victims of chromium-6. More than 350 people were compensated on the basis of this program. They received a maximum of 15,000 euros. A total amount of € 2,520,500 has been paid.
The House of Representatives on Wednesday discussed the use of chromium 6. The victims' organizations consider the regime presented in June insufficient.
The paint manufacturer pointed Defense in 2012
The Dutch paint manufacturer AkzoNobel had already reported to the Defense in 2012 a chrome-free alternative, reported the television program Nieuwsuur .
According to a courier in possession of Nieuwsuur AkzoNobel suggested a chrome-free paint that could be used in place of a paint containing chromium-6. Defense subsequently used a paint containing a higher percentage of chromium 6 than the old paint.
