Venezuela receives more than eight million euros in humanitarian aid. The United Nations has released the amount of an emergency fund.
The money is intended for the nutrition of young children and pregnant women. Nearly twelve percent of Venezuela's population is undernourished.
Unicef also gives additional money to the country. This includes vaccinations against measles and malaria treatment.
Inflation
Venezuela has been in a deep economic and political crisis for at least five years. There is a shortage of food and medicine and, because of high inflation, people have little money to pay for their maintenance.
Many Venezuelans see no alternative but to flee the country. According to the United Nations, this now represents more than 3 million. Most people travel to Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Brazil. A number of countries have temporarily closed borders because they could not cope with the flow of refugees.
The UN announced in early November that it wanted to raise nearly 200 million euros for refugees. Colombia, a neighboring country, now has a million people and Peru, half a million.
