According to researchers at Cisco Computer Group, which specializes in the sale of network equipment, smartphone Internet traffic is expected to double in 2022. This growth corresponds to a halving of the frequency of use of Internet by personal computers.
Researchers expect that 44% of Internet traffic in 2022 will come from smartphones. That was 18% in 2017.
Data consumption of personal computers will decrease to 19%. This year, 41% of total Internet traffic came from desktops and laptops.
According to researchers, Internet usage worldwide is increasing to 396 exabytes per month. This represents a tripling of the 122 exabytes used each month in 2017.
Analysts predict that by 2022, the total number of Internet users will be 4.8 billion. That would represent 60% of the world's population. In 2017, 45% of the population was on the Internet.
