The Netherlands are years behind in the field of films and series. The Dutch TV actor and producer Achmed Akkabi thinks this is the case.
The series of Mocro Mafia produced by Videoland and developed by Akkabi and Thijs Römer should change that.
"The Netherlands is doing well with the sport, Dance and Trade, but we are behind the theater and the cinema for two years now, we want to play at the international level at the dramatic level," says Akkabi, 35 , in an interview in Vrij Nederland
"Racism is quite a thing in the Moroccan community"
The series, based on the eponymous book by Wouter Laumans and Marijn Schrijver, sheds light on the world underground of Amsterdam. In particular the war between cocaine traders and importers, mainly of Moroccan origin.
"In the series, you also see how diverse the Moroccan community is," said Akkabi, who also plays a leading role in the series.
"We left different characters One of them is fantastically integrated, is DJ, has tattoos, in front of another brother who has all kinds of problems, or takes my character Pope, who sometimes reprimands people for "monkey" and "negro" – racism is a real one in the Moroccan community, I wanted to mention it.
