Thousands of people live illegally in a holiday park located in one of the eleven municipalities of the Veluwe. These include emergency claimants, migrant workers and vulnerable groups seeking refuge because of personal problems.

This is shown by a survey conducted on Wednesday by the Ministry of the Interior with the province of Gelderland and eleven municipalities of the country on the permanent occupation of amusement parks.

According to the researchers, 6,000 to 9,000 people live permanently in a holiday home or a mobile home. although about half of them are not officially registered there.

The researchers had to estimate the numbers from interviews with the police, civil servants and social workers, as many things are hidden and the municipalities tolerate housing for various reasons. The social service sometimes sends people to a holiday home in a difficult life situation, while the same municipality stays in the park.

Residents are mainly elderly and migrant workers

The elderly and migrant workers make up the majority of residents. Many older people have a home and have been living in the holiday park for a long time. Most people have little money.

Researchers also note an increase in the number of urban dwellers who can not maintain themselves in "ordinary society". The problem is vast and diverse, according to research.

Hundreds of people also live in parks, according to researchers, to stay deliberately safe from the authorities, in part because of their criminal behavior.

Much of the holiday parks was undernourished

De Veluwe was surveyed because this region has the highest density of holiday parks in the Netherlands. There are nearly five hundred parks, which together comprise about 29,000 homes and mobile homes.
