The roof of Ahoy Rotterdam will become a large solar panel in the coming years. Eneco, the municipality of Rotterdam, the European Union, Ahoy and other parties signed Wednesday the Sustainability Pact that is to provide electricity to almost Ahoy.
In the plans of the European project " strengthened, ", more than solar panels. For example, a surplus of solar energy is immediately transported to neighborhood buildings at a time when very little happens in Ahoy. In Ahoy itself, the new phase is thrilled. "We have the largest sunroof in Rotterdam," said director Peter van der Veer. "Ahoy becomes a kind of energy machine," laughs Van der Veer. He will soon deliver to the neighbors.
The electro-mechanical and mechanical engineer coordinator, Lars van Vliet, had to swallow when he learned that more than two thousand panels were on his roof. Bonding was not an option. Ahoy has been working for some time on a lower electricity bill. For example, energy consumption has decreased by several tens of percent in six years. Van Vliet: "Previously, all the lights were lit during their cleaning, but this is no longer the case, only the part where the work is done will be lit."
