Municipalities spent money on poor young people on other subjects

The municipalities of North Holland use the funds they receive from the central government to massively support poor young people in other areas. NH Nieuws

shows that the broadcaster asked the 48 municipalities of North Holland how much money they had received in 2017 and how they were spent. The municipalities together received about 15 million euros.

Klijnsma funds: since 2017, all Dutch municipalities together receive 85 million euros for the fight against child poverty.

The municipalities of North Holland donated about 15 million euros last year, more than 2 million euros did not matter; most were postponed to 2018.

In Stede Broec, Enkhuizen and Drechterland, the budget was not used because there were too few officials to do politics. And Bergen still has 13,000 euros, for which no policy has yet been developed.

Others have used to fill the reserve fund of the social field, because the poverty is partly covered. But the entire budget has also been added to the general resources on one occasion.

This happened in Beemster and Ouder-Amstel. In Aalsmeer, Amstelveen, Bloemendaal, Haarlemmerliede, Spaarnwoude and Heemstede, part of this amount was allocated to general funds

The municipalities that allocated the budget to young people do so mainly through the Youth Sports & Culture Fund, which supports young people to become a sports club or a music school.

In addition, they paid a lot of regulations for bicycles and computers or for swimming lessons. Tuition fees were also very popular, as were recipes for clothes or outings.

However, this money does not always go to young people in poverty in the form of supplementary budget. For example, it is sometimes used to address policy shortages in the fight against poverty or to avoid austerity measures.

Municipalities have also funded existing anti-poverty policies, so that nothing is available to young people. And in Schagen, the funds for 2017 were finally spent in 2018 to fund a pilot project to reduce youth drug, alcohol and cigarette use.

MPs from SP and PvdA responded to the investigation that they want to force the Secretary of State for Social Affairs to reserve this money. This means that municipalities can only spend this money to fight poverty.
