Joop Mommers, a project developer in Barendrecht, will file a lawsuit against the OMA architecture firm, responsible for the new Feyenoord City building. Mommers thinks that OMA, the company of the renowned Rem Koolhaas, has presented his ideas.
Mommers states that in 2005, he had already prepared the first shots of the new stadium. Koolhaas, however, can perform the task. "Cees de Bruin (president of the stadium society, ed.) Wanted a big name like Rem Koolhaas because he thought the project would be more likely to succeed," said Mommers at Nieuwe Revu. "Of course, I'm only a little man from Barendrecht."
De Bruin is going through difficult times, as has former Feyenoord director Eric Gudde and stadium director Jan van Merwijk. "The thieves are the ones," said Mommers, who will formally file a statement against the parties on Friday. "The square in front of the stadium is identical, the communication route with the old Kuip also, it is inconceivable that Koolhaas has the same idea".
Gudde, Van Merwijk and De Bruin do not want to comment on Mommers' accusations. According to the OMA, the resemblance between the plans of Mommers and Koolhaas is based on a mere coincidence.
