With the help of a cable carrier ship and twelve escort vessels, network operator Tennet brings the so-called COBRA cable this morning. This 325 km cable will connect the Dutch power grid to that of Denmark and connect Danish Endrup to Eemshaven Groningen
Electricity exchanges with neighboring countries are becoming increasingly important as energy dependence solar and wind increases. Another short year of work
The cable has a capacity of 700 megawatts and can thus supply almost a city like Amsterdam with electricity. The license for the cable connection had feet in the ground, as it crossed a seabed where the Netherlands and Germany claim.
The cable from Denmark is brought back to earth today but the project is not finished yet. In about a year, the exchange of electricity will probably begin.
