The Englishman Barbara Coombes, 51, was sentenced to nine years in prison for her father's death. She killed him after accidentally found his collection of child pornography, containing pictures of herself at a young age, naked in explicit postures. She buried her father in her garden in 2006. In January of this year she went to the police.
Child Pornography
Coombes was at work in her garden when she decided to take a break. When she went home, she saw a box on the table. To her horror, she found a collection of child pornography that turned out to be that of her father. She found pictures of herself. She was not nine when her father took her to a "photography club". She was forced to undress and show her genitals. In the meantime, other men took pictures of her.
When Coombes discovered the photos in the box, images of his youth came back. His father, Kenneth Coombes, has raped her hundreds of times. Coombes' mother also had to endure the tyranny of her father. She too was abused and abused. Even when Coombes grew up, his father continued to abuse him.
Kick
In the yard, Coombes said that she felt a "black cloud come on her". She grabbed the shovel she was gardening with and hit her father, who was elsewhere in the house, on his back. When he tried to get up, she hit him again. The sharp blade of the shovel then cut into his throat. Coombes watched his father bleed to death
The body wrapped them in a rug and the next day she bought a load of loose earth to bury the body. She laid red bricks around the grave in a circle. It was there for twelve years. She told the family that her father had died of heart problems and had been cremated at the hospital
It was only when a social worker wanted to visit his father the woman went to the police where she said the murder without emotion. In the courtroom, she pleaded guilty to manslaughter but not to murder because of reduced liability. This week she was sentenced to nine years in prison. The judge said that he could imagine that the years of abuse had required their "terrible record". He added that a history of abuse may explain why you killed someone, but that does not warrant it.
Not everyone agrees with the punishment inflicted on Coombes. Many even give Coombes his freedom. They are of the opinion that Coombes has released the world from an abuser and pedophile. She buried the man and then continued his life as a normal citizen.
