A hacker managed to get his hands on a database containing approximately 350,000 completed forms from De Persgroep's journals. "If someone has filled in personal data via the web form, I can imagine that they have also fallen into the hands of the hacker," said spokesman Willem-Albert Bol at NU.nl
De Persgroep publishes, among others, regional titles Tubantia the Warrior BN DeStem The Stentor on Brabants Dagblad on ] Eindhovens Dagblad and Provincial Zeeuwse Courant . According to the company, the majority of the forms captured on the websites come from its regional titles.
Bol said Wednesday in NU.nl that De Persgroep suspects that in less than 1% of cases, bank data were also entered. If this suspicion is correct, it would represent a maximum of 3,500 victims
From Persgroep sends to the 300,000 e-mail addresses appearing in the database a message containing information which, according to the company, were captured by the hacker even if it only concerns an e-mail address. All these concerned users will receive an e-mail before Thursday, Bol said Wednesday at NU.nl.
"Out of about 50,000 people, data was also entered, but we do not have an e-mail address," Bol says. These people will be notified by letter later
