Afghanistan: More than 130 deaths caused by electoral violence Now

The first eight-year elections in Afghanistan are accompanied by violence and organizational chaos. The government reported on Saturday that at least 130 people had been killed in election-related violence.

On election day, the capital Kabul was hit by several attacks. Three policemen were killed in an explosion with facts still unknown. A suicide attack in a polling station killed three people and a second suicide bombing killed at least fifteen people, including ten civilians and five policemen.

The attacks have not yet been claimed, but they were probably perpetrated by the Taliban. They said in a series of statements that the elections were a process imposed by foreign parties and warned against attacks at polling stations.

Elsewhere in the country, a house was hit by a mortar grenade, killing one person and injuring eight. In Ghor province, the Taliban carried out a conventional attack, killing several soldiers.

In Kandahar province, elections were postponed one week after the attack of an election assembly composed of senior government officials. In addition, an influential police chief and a commander of the regional intelligence agency were killed on Thursday.

Not only voters and security services have been the victims of violence perpetrated by activists in elections. At least ten candidates were also murdered.

Elections also suffer from organizational problems

Voting is chaotic. On Saturday, it was announced that the elections would be extended for one day due to organizational problems.

It was announced in advance that more than two thousand of the country's seven thousand polling stations would not be open for fear of violence. This number turned out to be much higher on polling day. Other polling stations opened too late, forcing the first voters to return home without having the right to vote.
