The MC Slotervaart in Amsterdam closes definitively. Minister Bruno Bruins (Medical Care, VVD) announced Friday night how the institution declared insolvent last week will be dismantled. The minister, the curator, the health insurer Zilveren Kruis, the municipality of Amsterdam and the other parties concerned have debated this issue in recent days.
Hospital employees receive help to reduce care. Two "authoritative and independent doctors" will help. The council also receives help and the Inspectorate of Health and Youth instructs people to assist the hospital crisis team. The health insurer organizes the transfer of patients and their records. Particular attention will also be paid to general practitioners who have extra work due to the closure of MC Slotervaart.
After long financial problems for the hospital in Amsterdam-West, a sudden and unexpected bankruptcy followed last week. Discussions on an acquisition took place last week, but the MC Slotervaart will close for the moment. It is not clear if the hospital can continue in another way. It is not known how long the decommissioning will take.
Bankruptcy Hospitals
The former CEO of MC Slotervaart, Aysel Erbudak, was fired in 2013, mostly due to an argument with a health insurer. Businessmen Loek Winter and Willem de Boer then took over the hospital in 1975. Little changed, after which the hospital was declared bankrupt last week.
Earlier in the day, the IJsselmeer hospitals of Lelystad and Emmeloord were also declared bankrupt. The institutions, also owned by Winter and De Boer, were no longer able to pay their bills. The recipients are in discussion with the interested parties for a restart, there are several candidates and it is expected that Wednesday is known if and by whom the institutions will be taken back.
