The current car tax system needs to be changed, otherwise the government's 2030 climate targets will not be met. This is what the association RAI says from a study conducted in collaboration with the consulting firm Revnext.
According to the association, the best measure is to use an honest payment system, whereby taxes on existing cars are converted into a price per kilometer based on one car. This ensures the maintenance of tax revenues and the improvement of accessibility.
According to President Steven van Eijck, no other conclusion is possible that this honest payment to use should be introduced as quickly as possible.
According to Van Eijck, ordinary motorists will soon pay subsidies for electric cars, as the motor vehicle tax and the tax on gasoline and diesel models will increase dramatically.
"Unacceptable", says Van Eijck. "Paying for use is fairer and provides a much greater social benefit."
