The wounded were treated on place by the emergency services. The poorest people were transported to hospital by helicopter

"The first reports show that about twenty people were injured," reports the ER24 emergency service. Injuries would be mild to very serious. The South African newspaper News24 reports that the pilot would be in poor condition. According to humanitarian workers, he is still stuck in the cockpit.

Flight test

Aviodrome says to be "very shocked". According to the aviation theme park at Lelystad, the Convair has collapsed during a test flight. The South African emergency services have not yet published anything about it

. It is a Convair C340, a twin engine with conventional engines. The plane was already sprayed in the colors of Martin's Air Charter, the previous name of Martinair. The KLM has also used this type of aircraft in the past.

Martinair expresses his condolences to the crew, passengers and persons involved in the plane crash. KLM, the parent company of Martinair, points out that this is not an aircraft of the Dutch airline

Road

The 1954 Convair C340 was donated by the South African owner Rovos Rail to the museum of Aviodrome aviation. After the necessary technical work, the historic aircraft will cross Africa and Europe this summer to join its new Aviodrome Air Base at Lelystad Airport.

By July 12, the plane will begin flying from South Africa. Since the Convair is suitable for mainly short and medium distances, there would be several stops on the way to the Netherlands. The route was planned from South Africa via Zambia, Uganda, Sudan, Egypt, Croatia and Austria until Lelystad.
