NIEUWEGEIN (ANP) – Beach volleyball players Christiaan Varenhorst and Jasper Bouter stop in pairs. The decision comes from Varenhorst, 28, who does not want to continue with Bouter, 21 years old. Christiaan worked hard for a year with Jasper to make this cooperation a success. The conclusion now is that their personalities are too different to continue together towards Tokyo 2020, "says coach Gijs Ronnes.

Varenhorst and Bouter form a duet since August 2017 and immediately win the Dutch title. They finished fifth at the European Beach Volleyball Championships last summer. In consultation with Ronnes, both players are looking for a new partner. They are still part of the Dutch selection.

Varenhorst was particularly successful with Reinder Nummerdor, who was arrested today. The duo won the silver medal at the 2015 World Cup and reached the quarter-finals at the Rio Olympics in 2016. With Maarten van Garderen, Varenhorst is ranked fourth at the World Cup 2017.
