Berg en Dal saves a bridge for one euro

Part of the purchased land includes the existing railway line, the bike path and the pit pit slopes in the forest. Parts of the market square in Groesbeek also belong to the sale.

In the middle of 2017, it became apparent that the railway bridge at Groesbeek was dangerous. The rooms were down and this created a danger for users of the bike path that passes under the bridge. ProRail did not think it was important to repair the bridge. The same was true for the underlying railway pit. The railway has been out of service for years and for this reason, ProRail no longer invests. The city council of Berg en Dal wants to keep the bridge for hikers and cyclists. "It's a cultural, historic and iconic structure," according to the municipality.

ProRail's proposal to buy the land and all that accompanied it was an opportunity for Berg en Dal to save the bridge: "Walkers, cyclists, runners" and other recreationists use this bridge. The future of the bridge is guaranteed by the purchase. "

Create a new market in another way

The municipality of Berg en Dal will also manage the railway well.The purchased route goes from the Biesseltsebaan to the German border. the terrain on which the track and cycle track are located and an average of eight meters more.In cooperation with Staatsbosbeheer and the Groesbeek Environmental Management Working Group, a plan is being prepared.
