On Friday, students from more than 100 countries fought for the climate. Events are also taking place in the Netherlands, where the city of Utrecht has been selected. The so-called "climate leak" crosses the city.
The campaigns take place in 1,623 locations in 119 countries. Coordinators of the World Day of Action expect a total of more than one million participants
The Dutch organizer is Youth For Climate, which had already organized a grand march in The Hague. Protesters march from Nieuweroord Park, near Utrecht Central Station, to Wilhelmin Park from 12:00.
In many other countries, students took to the streets. Social media show images of thousands of protesters in countries such as Italy, Germany, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.
Young people demand action against climate change
Young people demand more action from politicians to fight climate change. A number of organizers have spoken to politicians in their country.
The students are inspired by Greta Thunberg, 16 years old. The Swedish activist organized a weekly protest in August in the Parliament building in Stockholm.
The teenager is considered the figurehead of a protest movement that is now active in several countries. In addition to students, other groups have united in the fight against climate change, such as teachers and the elderly.
