Due to persistent drought and ever-lower water levels in major rivers, the National Coordinating Committee for Water Distribution (LCW) will meet on Wednesday. This advisory body only takes action if there is a drought for a longer period and the demand for water is greater than the supply. The committee examines the situation and the measures needed to distribute scarce freshwater.

Rijkswaterstaat collaborates with other organizations of the Water Management Center, such as the KNMI Meteorological Institute, water agencies and the provinces. In the early afternoon, concerned parties also presented the latest "drying monitor" describing the state of affairs

. Meteorologists are waiting for the drought not to end yet. The consequences are more and more perceptible, for example for agricultural and natural areas. The division of water is also necessary to prevent too much salt water from entering the country from the estuaries. Salinization is a particular problem for the supply of drinking water and for agriculture.
