Corning Glasmaker has announced Gorilla Glass 6, the sixth version of its chemically hardened glass for use in smartphones. The new generation must endure more traps than the previous one.

Corning claims that Gorilla Glass 6 can support fifteen traps of less than one meter, while glass can withstand eye drops better. Gorilla Glass 5 survives on average 11 traps of one meter in height. The company tested glass with a thickness of 0.8mm, a thicker than average smartphone glass and a 180 grit sandpaper.

Corning developed the glass keeping the trends in mind . the ability to charge wirelessly. The new generation is also needed because manufacturers want thinner glass layers. Smartphones ten years ago according to Corning a glass layer of 1.1 mm, which is now between 0.4 and 0.6 mm.

Corning says nothing about how good Gorilla Glass 6 scratches can. The new generation has a new composition of glass.
