The D66 coalition party will not support the VVD plan to invest 10 million euros in birth control in Africa. The reason for this withdrawal is the "enraged" statement by VVD MP Wybren van Haga. He talked about contraception that would yield more than investment in, for example, the fight against hunger or sickness and education. Although D66 initially accepted this story, Van Haga's statements went too far. "Unacceptable," said D66 deputy Achraf Bouali

Sigrid Kaag, Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, also believes the statements are reprehensible. "People's lives should never be described in terms of efficiency," she said in the Spraakmakers radio show. The D66 will now make another proposal with the coalition partner CDA "For Access and Information on Contraception in Developing Countries"
