The Defense stopped using a shooting range at Bonaire because of a "potentially dangerous situation," the Defense Ministry reported Thursday. The shooting range is not government.

An investigation is underway on the Washikemba range, which was reported on 3 October. According to the Ministry of Defense, the work regulations were immediately communicated again to all concerned parties. The instructions and management and control agreements have also been tightened.

Failing to know whether security was sufficiently guaranteed with these measures, the use of the range was stopped on November 12th. Other departments using the Washikemba have been informed of the decision.

The Inquiry Commission hopes to have completed the investigation on the firing range by the end of the year. In the meantime, the Military Committee on Dangerous Substances (MCGS) or military personnel can again use the Washikemba

In recent years, the ranges used by the Defense have been discredited a few times. Recently published orders concern the health risks of an indoor shooting stand in Bergen op Zoom.

In 2016, an instructor was killed in a shooting range in Ossendrecht. According to the Dutch Office of Security (OVV), security was not very good during the exercise.
