Denying unvaccinated children in day care can be illegal – The Daily Standard

In recent months, there is much to be done regarding the vaccination rate in the country. The measles broke out in various places and the shock was good. Yet, as Mark Rutte (VVD) acknowledges, little is happening at the moment. However, there are risks if children are not vaccinated and that is why some crèches refuse unvaccinated children.

However, the question is whether this is allowed!

More than one hundred daycares report that they chose to refuse unvaccinated children. Crèches must have this freedom, since they are more familiar with the demands and wishes of parents than ministers or legislators.

Of the hundred crèches, twenty-five have since refused children. The parents of these children are therefore unlucky and have had to look for another place to leave their offspring. Only when there are compelling reasons, such as a danger to the health of other children. This is why a special commission, at the request of Secretary of State Van Ark, examines the issue.

This turns out to be a complicated job, according to Trouw . Probably not because of the reading of the law, but because of the moral dilemmas of probability. After all, unvaccinated children are not, by definition, a health risk to other children. There is a chance that they become so at some point, but that is not cast in iron.

And so it's weighing. Refuse or not? Is it allowed or not by law? A difficult decision for a "special committee" and a political issue, however, the question is at what level this question should be answered. In The Hague? In the daycares themselves?

At least D66 wants to give daycares the freedom to determine their own policies. And we do not say it often, but it's an excellent starting position for Rob Jetten's party.

Some daycares fear the allegations of contamination, but it's very far-fetched. As if people were consciously rendering others sick? No of course not!

Given the low risk that an unvaccinated child infects another, the risk does not seem too high. Certainly because group immunity in the Netherlands is always clear. Better still, the committee simply adopts proposal D66 in it.

Would you like to send your children to a place frequented by unvaccinated children?
