Died and injured in a train accident in Taiwan

In a train accident in northeastern Taiwan, at least 20 people were killed on Sunday. At least 160 people were injured. Thirty passengers are still trapped in the trains.

In the accident, eight cars were were derailed, four of which were derailed on their side. There were 366 passengers on the train, on a route frequented by tourists. According to Focus Taiwan an American would have been slightly injured, or if there were strangers in the train, she still is not clear. It is still unclear how the accident could occur.

According to a train passenger, the driver would have pulled the emergency brake several times before the accident. Another passenger told Focus Taiwan that many travelers were sleeping and therefore could not react quickly to the emergency situation.

The speed of the train at the time of the accident is not clear.
