According to the Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), this represents 8% more than the previous semester

The most popular euro banknote among counterfeiters is the 50 euro banknote. Of all the counterfeit notes that were withdrawn in the Netherlands in the last six months, more than three quarters had this name.

However, DNB believes that the chances of having one in the hands remain low. In total, 21 billion euro banknotes are in circulation.

The number of notes seized varies greatly during the year. For example, there was a 14 percent decrease from the first half of 2017.

Recognition

According to DNB, the total volume of counterfeit notes is almost the same as the number of counterfeit bills. All money in circulation is sooner or later taken by the control equipment. Counterfeit money is recognized once, says a spokesperson

Worldwide, the number of counterfeit euro banknotes intercepted has risen from 363,000 in the second half of 2017 to 301,000 in the last six months.
