EINDHOVEN – Dozens of farmers from south-east Brabant said they were victims of the drought at Vereinigte Hagel. This concerns crop producers who hope to benefit from a benefit on the basis of what is called weather insurance. This is possible if 250 millimeters less rainfall has fallen on their plot than usual.
KNMI leads here. Due to persistent drought, the harvest of potatoes, corn, sugar beets and onions is threatened.
The insurance covers up to seventy percent of the damages. According to Jan Schreuder, spokesman for the insurer, the amounts to be paid will be in paper for his business. He could not give exact numbers yet. However, it concerns more reports than last year. In view of the continuing drought, Vereinigte Hagel also relies on damage reports from West Brabant
'Report Once'.
The damage, or better the shortage of precipitation, should be reported only once. "Our experts will then identify the damage and then continue to monitor the situation with their customers," says Schreuder
The weather insurance has a few thousand insured. "It's a cooperative insurance, so the producers support the producers." This insurance was put in place in 2010 by the government with the agricultural sector and insurers. In this way, victims of extreme weather conditions may be (partially) compensated
