Several petrol stations in the Netherlands suffer from problems of fuel supply. This ensures that the pumping stations are sometimes empty, so that it should not be sold to the customer. The causes include persistent drought and an acute shortage of skilled drivers. This is indicated by the interest group Tankstations BETA on Friday.
Due to drought, the level of water in the rivers has dropped. Vessels that provide fuel deposits may therefore be less heavily laden. The sector has also suffered from the recent oil spill in the port of Rotterdam.
A structural problem is the lack of drivers, according to a BETA spokesperson. "These drivers have to have special training because they drive with dangerous substances.But there is a great shortage of these people.This is a major cause of the problem."
BETA, who has about a thousand members, receives daily phone calls from affected pump owners: "Some are dry for a few hours, sometimes up to three days …"
