The book The English Patient, filmed in 1996 with Ralph Fiennes and Kristin Scott Thomas in the leading roles, was voted Best Booker Prize Laureate of the last fifty years.
The organizer of the important book prize for English-speaking literature a team of experts from each decade chose a book. The public was then allowed to vote for the five books, and crowned the English Patient as the winner of the Golden Man Booker.
The English Patient, from 1992, tells two stories: that of a nurse who takes care of a man seriously injured in an Italian. villa, and a love story of his past. According to The Guardian, writer Michael Ondaatje said in a reaction that he "did not believe for a moment" that his job was really the best on the list.
However, the public chose the English Patient en masse, perhaps because of the fame of the film. It was awarded in 1997 with nine Oscars, including for the best film, the best director, the best costumes and the best female role of support for Juliette Binoche. The English patient has also won five Bafta Awards and two Golden Globes.
