Too Much Medicine
A previous study had shown that about euros of drugs were discarded each year. According to Bekker, about 40 percent will be unnecessarily lost in the trash, according to Trouw newspaper
Pharmacies have asked Bekker's request for a week to state the reasons why patients have made their medications. In four out of ten cases, it was found that patients had received too much medication, which, according to Bekker, had avoided it.
Autopilot
She thinks that drugs are too often supplied "on autopilot". "If, for example, a patient receives test results later in the week, it is not appropriate to give drugs for three months," she says in Trouw. "Then choose a stock for a week."

In order to reduce costs, pharmacies should be able to resell packaged and sealed packs once the expiry date has passed. "With expensive drugs, this system provides much more than it costs."
