Roger Federer and Kevin Anderson qualified for the semi-finals of the ATP World Tour finals on Thursday. For Dominic Thiem and Kei Nishikori, the curtain fell on the end of year tournament in London.
Federer, a twenty-time Grand Slam champion, had enough against Anderson – who was already certain of the last four games before their match – six games for the next round the Swiss won the first set with 6-4. The game is still in progress.
Federer wins the record for the ATP final. He has won the prestigious tournament six times, already dating from his last victory seven years ago. Last year, Grigor Dimitrov was the best in London.
Earlier in the day, Thiem was too strong for Nishikori in two sets: 6-1 and 6-4. Because of this result, the Austrian was assured that Anderson could not escape a place in the semifinal battle. The South African, who was competing in the Wimbledon finals this year, had already won the match against Thiem and Nishikori.
Although Thiem and Nishikori did very little, the Austrian won the first set with a large number: 6-1. Both players received several points, but Thiem was the only one who managed to use two. In the second set, the Austrian had enough to win at the break.
In the other group, Novak Djokovic qualified for the semifinals of the ATP final on Wednesday by beating Alexander Zverev. Zverev has the best articles in this group that are also among the last four.
