Tom Boonen does not appear in the plans of Lotto Soudal's new team leader, John Lelangue. On Tuesday, he organized a coaching day for all staff to put everyone in the same direction. Boonen was not present, reports Het Nieuwsblad. Last year, the former world champion had been nominated by the predecessor of Lelangue, Paul de Geyter.
The latter was Boonen's broker for years. Last year, De Geyter had met him at Lotto Soudal, while Boonen was flying for his rival rival Quick-Step Floors during his vast majority of his career. Lelangue does not know yet how he will integrate the sports consultant into his team, if he does it at all.
"At the moment, Tom is not part of my plans," says Lotto Soudal's new boss.
