Garages of error prevent emergency workers from drowning

A 41-year-old man was killed in Belgium after diving into an old sand mining pit. Emergency services withdrew, but the garages had blocked the access road. As a result, valuable minutes have been lost.

Recreational swimming is permitted on part of the well, but there is a ban on swimming outside this area. The victim had ignored the ban on bathing in Lommel, near the border with the Netherlands. He dived from a wooden pier on Friday and did not get up anymore.

Bystanders followed the man and managed to get him out of the water. They called the emergency number, but a fire truck and an ambulance could not approach them because the car parks were not properly parked.

Stuck Forest Road

"They were even stationed on the forest trail specifically designed for emergency services. "The forest road is just wide enough for emergency services, we have not been able to get through." Humanitarian workers finally asked the police to remove the cars. The victim died in the hospital
