GroenLinks wants the Ministry of Defense to be under strict control

If it depends on GroenLinks, the operational management of the Ministry of Defense is placed under the tutelage of the House of Representatives. According to Member of Parliament Isabelle Diks, too many problems have occurred in recent years and the ministry is not able to solve the problems itself. Diks submitted to the House of Representatives on Wednesday a proposal that still does not determine whether it is supported by the majority.

For years, the defense has been abused. Just this year, there have been scandals such as the poor living conditions in the barracks and the lack of ammunition and clothing, fatal accidents in the shooting ranges and the use of paint containing the carcinogenic substance Chromium-6.

According to Diks, it is high time that the Lower House help Defense Secretary Barbara Visser solve the problems. Mr Diks, opposed to ANP, wants the House to consider it a "big project", as was also the case with Betuwelijn. In this way, the Secretary of State must keep the Court informed accurately and continuously of progress and costs. In doing so, it is verified by accountants who check to see if the House is properly informed.
