Hijackers abducted eleven crew members in a container ship off the coast of Nigeria. A spokesman for the Nigerian Navy said that a search had been launched.
At the time of the attack, the ship was en route to Nigerian port of Onne. The ship operator says that nine other crew members are still on board and are unharmed.
"Our priority is to ensure that the eleven crew members are released," says MidOcean (IOM) Ltd. The company has not made any statements regarding the nationality of the abducted crew members. Polish media report that there are at least eight Poles.
According to MidOcean, the container ship sailed for safe waters and the families of the victims are informed.
