Borsalino hats were worn by big Hollywood stars. Even the infamous American gangster Al Capone liked to wear hats. More contemporary customers are singer-producer Pharrell Williams and Harrison Ford in his role of Indiana Jones.
The company was struggling with the decline in sales for some time. In 2015, Borsalino was incorporated by the investment company Haeres Equita. But the new owner failed to make the company founded in 1857 profitable and, in December, Borsalino was declared bankrupt by the court.
Camperio, 47, wants to revive the brand. The Swiss would have paid 18 million euros to Haeres Equita for trademark rights. At the auction of the assets by the court, he paid about 6.4 million euros for the machines, the contracts with the employees and the rights of the Borsalino stores.
