The inquiry service of the Dutch Food and Consumer Safety Authority has set up a trade in illegal slimming products in South Holland. There are raids in two houses and a business building. In addition to administrative and digital data, crates with slimming equipment, money and a Porsche and a Mercedes were seized.

Four people were arrested during the raid. They are believed to have sold slimming products that presumably contain dangerous substances. Substances are not mentioned on the labels. The NVWA tests the products seized to find out what exactly they contain.

The NVWA has notified consumers in 2016 and 2017 of similar dangerous weight loss products. These are mainly nutritional supplements in the form of pills, powders or tea, which contain substances such as sibutramine, sildenafil and fluoxetine. These are active substances in drugs that are not allowed in slimming products.

Consumers who have experienced serious side effects, such as heart problems and anxiety attacks, have also been reported in the past by consumers
