The production of the burger will take place initially in several places in the Netherlands and will only be available in restaurants in 2021. Three years later, production must be increased, so that the cultivated meat is also in the supermarket.

M Ventures and the Swiss meat processor and cooked food producer Bell Food Group invests in the company to make production possible. M Ventures is the investment vehicle of the scientific and technological company Merck

For Mosa Meat, the investment is an important step. The company derived from the University of Maastricht introduced the first cow beef hamburger in 2013. The founder of Mosa Meat, Mark Post, professor of vascular physiology at the University of Maastricht, created the first hamburger with cell division without the need to die.

Quickly cheaper

Lorenz Wyss, CEO of Bell Food Group, sees cultivated meat as a good solution for the adverse environmental effects of increasing meat consumption. The meat processor, with a turnover of 3.5 billion euros and 12,000 employees, is one of the food giants in Europe. The group wants to invest in meat production that emits much less greenhouse gases.

According to a spokesman for Mosa Meat, the cultural burger will cost about 9 euros in 2021. After a few years when mass production is taken, the piece of meat quickly becomes cheaper.
