ING offers a scanner for 1 million customers without application

About 1 million ING customers who do not yet confirm their payment orders via the app from their smartphone or tablet. With the device as an alternative, customers need to scan a color code on the computer screen.

The device then generates a numeric code confirming the order. It works in much the same way as its rival Rabobank. The only difference is that the ING scanner can only be used for one account.

About 4 million customers

ING announced at the beginning of this year the abolition of the TAN code. When he was promised that there would be an alternative for customers who do not want or can not pay via the app. Meanwhile, 3.9 million commercial and private customers pay from the bank via the application, according to ING in January 1.1 million.

Nevertheless, the change is slower than expected, said a spokesman. And that is why there is more time to "eliminate" the use of TAN codes, as the spokesperson says. "The change is big enough for some people, so they have more time to get used to it," she says.

The main reason why people have not gone to the screen yet is that they do not have a smartphone, but some customers do not want the app, she admits.

Beginning in the Spring

Customers who still use a paper list with TAN codes to confirm their payments may request the device in the spring. Then come the people who now receive the TAN codes by SMS.

The bank promises customers who have not yet made the application to send a message as soon as they can request the device. Until then, they still used a TAN code.
