Since 2013, airmiles have a maximum validity of five years. A total of 2.9 billion air miles, in the hands of 700,000 people, will expire in November. Airmiles has therefore launched a campaign since the beginning of this year to call people to deliver their airplanes on time.
Karen Mulders has been trying to do this for a week and a half, but she can not handle it because the site is flat. She wants to give her more than 21,369 points. "I want to exchange them for headphones and towels."
How many letters do Karen expire in three days, she does not know herself. "I can not reach the site." Once logged in, the site indicates the number of air miles that someone has and what will soon expire.
Servers and Additional Employees
Ewald van Rooij is the spokesperson for Loyalty Management Netherlands, the company behind Airmiles. He acknowledges that the site has been difficult to access recently due to the huge traffic.
"We bought extra capacity, but we still have problems," he says. "Sometimes the site is accessible, and sometimes no, our advice is this: people have to keep trying."
In addition to the extra capacity of the server, the number of airmiles call center employees also increased.
The spokesperson points out that there are other ways to redeem air miles. "They can give them in different ways, it is not necessary to do it via our site, you can also use the airmiles to get discounts at Albert Heijn, bol.com or Praxis, or refuel at Shell."
Van Rooij says that the period during which old air miles can be made is not extended. "We find this very annoying for people who are now doing their air miles, but November 1 will be the date that the pre-2013 air miles will expire."
