There is an end to the mobile standard that was once incredibly fast. KPN announces that it will cease to offer a 3G network by January 2022. KPN has been working for some time to replace 3G frequencies for 4G frequencies and the company will continue until it no longer remains 3G band.

At present, 95% of KPN customers already have a phone that is suitable for 4G and KPN expects that number will only decrease.

Vodafone earlier

The message comes after Vodafone at the end of last year announced from January 2020 to stop the 3G network. The third (and last) 3G service provider, T-Mobile, has not yet shared plans for the end of its 3G network.

All other providers use the network of these major suppliers. Tele2 has its own 4G network, but in case of failure, it also relies on the network of the main suppliers.

Nostalgia

The first official 3G network was released on October 1, 2001 in Japan. In 2003, the first smartphones with 3G support on the market, such as the Nokia 6650. One of the most well-known 3G phones was the iPhone 3G in 2008, the first iPhone that was on sale in the US Low.

Auction 5G

Meanwhile, 5G, the fifth generation of mobile networks, is on the way. The Internet 5G uses frequencies other than 4G and 3G. The new frequencies are expected to be auctioned by the end of 2019. The 4G frequency auction in 2012 gave the state 3.8 billion euros.
